Annual Glenaire 5K Happening in April 2023

During the winter months, we all seem to long for those first few days of spring when the greenery comes back, the sun stays in the sky longer, and nature invites us to come outside and play. While we have a stretch of winter ahead of us, there is an event we can all look forward to as we turn the corner into spring. On Saturday, April 1st, Glenaire will host its 7th Annual 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run starting at 9am.

Along with the physical health benefits of participating in the 5K, the purpose for gathering on a Saturday morning is also rewarding to our hearts and minds. As a non-profit, Presbyterian-affiliated organization, Glenaire has never asked a resident to leave our community simply because they have outlived their resources. In its 30 years, Glenaire has provided over $5 million in financial assistance. In, 2023, we expect to provide over $350,000.00 in scholarship funds. 100% of race proceeds will support this cause. “Residents, their families, staff, and the community come out to support the foundation that supports our residents who have outlived their resources,” states Hannah Ericksen, Glenaire’s Event and Catering Coordinator. “We are so grateful to everyone who donates items to our swag bags, makes a direct donation, participates, and volunteers.”

Participants include residents, staff, residents of the future, as well as members from the other Brightspire sister communities, and community members from all over. “The Glenaire 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run is not just a Glenaire event, but a community event. It’s a family friendly event where children 12 and under can race at no cost,” states Carolyn Rice, Wellness Director.  “We also give discounts to our staff members to make it easy for them to attend on a budget. The race shows that Glenaire is vibrant and active. The community at large is always so impressed by not only how friendly Glenaire residents are, but also how much they can accomplish! We are proud to show off our Glenaire community and this is a perfect opportunity. We are also grateful for all the volunteers that make this race happen.”

On race day, the 5K starts at 9:00am and the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 9:05am. The course is a fast and rolling course through the neighborhoods near downtown Cary. It takes a short tour on the Higgins Greenway. It starts and finishes on the parking deck. This course is certified by USA Track & Field. There will be one water stop on the course near the 2-mile mark and each mile will be marked as well. The 1 Mile Fun Run will begin and end in the same place. It’s an out and back course through the Community. There will be an awards ceremony and a party with food and music, after the race concludes.
