Celebrating 35 Years of Continuing Care

Published: May 31, 2023

Scotia Village has been a part of the Laurinburg community for 35 years, opening in 1988 on a 66-acre campus. The community was ready to accommodate residents for independent, assisted, or skilled nursing needs. Within the first three years, Scotia Village added single-family homes, and more accommodations were made for the health care center.

Along with the growth of the physical campus, the people involved with Scotia Village made historic contributions to the well-being and care of not only current residents, but for the future as well. In 2001, a dedication of the Morris Morgan Entertainment Center and the Ruth Morgan Hall symbolized the leadership and involvement from the Morgan family. Quickly following in 2002, the William Robert Dulin building was completed, bringing a new wing for assisted living and a dedicated space for those navigating through Alzheimer’s and dementia.

For the last 35 years, staff and residents have participated in many community activities on campus including the Brightspire Olympics that take place annually. Outdoor activities have provided not only physical health, but opportunities for socializing and hosting family and friends. The rose garden welcomes all who enter, and an iconic frog band decorates an outdoor gathering area, where cookouts and concerts are held.

As Scotia continues to grow and adapt, the ability to accommodate that growth is demonstrated with the health care renovation in 2016, and even now in the east expansion project for new housing. “Thanks to the strong leadership offered by the Scotia Village Board of Trustees, not only does Laurinburg have a retirement community, it has one of the best,” states Allen Johnson, Executive Director. The community already has a rich history and will continue to provide excellent living accommodations and memorable experiences.
